Certified Nursing Assistant Course Information

The Certified Nursing Assistant course is designed to train students to be qualified and successful nursing assistants. This program consists of 80 total hours of training in classroom lecture, skills laboratory experiences and clinical experiences. Of the 80 total hours, 24 hours are to be performed in the clinical setting. This program is approved by the Utah Nursing Assistant Registry.

Course Objectives:

At the completion of this course students should be prepared to sit for the licensure examination to become a Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Utah.

Course Requirements:

  1. Students must register and pay for the course before the first class period.
  2. Students will be required to purchase the required textbooks and supplies.
  3. Students must meet the contact hour requirements through their attendance in order to pass the course. Students must attend a minimum of 16 hours of classroom contact hours before they are allowed to participate in clinical experiences.
  4. Students must provide documentation that they are a minimum of 16 years of age upon registration.
  5. Students must obtain CPR or BLS certification prior to placement in the clinical setting. A course will be offered as part of the cost of the course. This course may be offered outside of the normal course schedule. Students unable to attend the offered CPR course will need to provide documentation of current certification, at the student’s expense, prior to clinical placement.
  6. Registration.
  7. Students must fill out a registration form. Students can pick up a registration form from the Nursing Admissions office at: Provo College 1450 West 820 North Provo, UT 84601
  8. Students will be required to undergo an acceptable background check through a reputable background reporting company and such report must be on file with Provo College prior to clinical placement. This service can be completed by appointment at Provo College for a cost of $35.00 payable to Provo College Bookstore.
  9. Students will be required to provide documentation of immunity or completed immunizations for Hepatitis B (two shots, at least one month apart, must be completed of the series of three prior to clinical placement). A negative tuberculosis mantoux or negative chest x-ray must also be submitted prior to clinical placement. The cost for all immunizations and laboratory testing is solely the responsibility of the student. Additional immunizations may be required by the participating clinical agencies at the expense of the student. Immunizations must be started before class begins.
